Tata as Tata Airlines in 1932, and became a public limited company in 1946 as Air India. The airline was nationalized in 1953 by the Indian government and renamed Air India International Limited. In 1960, it took over Jet Airways, which became its domestic subsidiary.

Air India has a fleet of over 140 aircraft, including Boeing 747s, 777s, 787 Dreamliners, Airbus A320s, A321s, and ATR 72-500 turboprop airliners.
